My post-fairy tale life and why real life is beyond my wildest imagination

Once upon a time, I was born in a small Northern village believing my name really did mean I was a princess.    As with most girls who are raised on a steady diet of stories that begin with “once upon a time” I grew up believing the problems in my life (dragons, wicked parents, very tall prison towers) would magically disappear and my life would follow the well read script of living happily ever after.  Then the fairy tale wedding I planned fell apart and I had to negotiate the world and slay my own dragons.

In the five years since my belief in fairy tales ended, I have experienced exhilarating highs and some pretty low moments but the ongoing story is more amazing and beautiful than any story I could have imagined for myself.  My life is not perfect and it is not a fairy tale, but its an amazing ride and I’ve had some unbelievable adventures.  I am primarily using this to document the experience so I can remind myself I have lived a great story.  I also might be half hoping this blog will get picked up for a book deal or the latest “single girl discovery” show on HBO.  Just kidding…sort of.

My life might not be following the beaten path, but there are stories worth telling and I committing myself to sharing them.  I hope they make you laugh, smile or amuse you for the two minutes of your workday you are not checking your email or Facebook.  I have learned that life rarely gives you what you expect, so I look forward to this opportunity to share some of my tales and see how that affects my overall tale.  More to come later of my fractured fairy tale and how I am reforming my Princess ways.7407588-beautiful-shining-true-princess-crown
